During your vacation in Cancun, you can withdraw money from the ATMs that are spread in the Cancun hotels zone, inside supermarkets, shopping malls and business areas. Some Cancun resorts also have ATMs in the lobby also. Traveler’s checks and currency can be changed at Banks and money exchange houses.

Tipping in Mexico- When you travel to Cancun consider to put a little apart to tip bellboys, housekeeping, waiters, and waitresses and bar tenders in Cancun Resorts and restaurants and tour guides thanking for their kindness and fine service since their wages are low, and they make a major difference in their income so. Save some extra money besides the money that you have in mind for Cancun accommodation.

About currency – While most establishments accept U.S. dollars, the official currency in Cancun beaches is the peso. Bill Denominations are 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 pesos, while coins are available in 1, 2, 5 and 10 pesos and 50 cents.

Bringing Sparky with you on your Cancun vacation can be a great experience and can add a lot of fun to your time in Cancun, but there are a few things that you should know before trying to board the plane with your pet! So here are a few tips and pointers that can help make the whole process go smoothly and get you and your pet to Cancun faster!

Each country has certain regulations regarding pet health. For Cancun, Mexico, you will need an International Health Certification and a complete vaccination record. The International Health Certification must be issued no more than 72 hours before travel and the vaccination record must include rabies, distemper, hepatitis and leptospirosis. All must be more than thirty days old but less than twelve months old. This is to ensure that no animals being brought into Cancun are carrying any diseases that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

To bring your pet home after your Cancun vacation is the same as if you were bringing them into the United States for the first time. But these regulations may vary due to season and places that you have visited other than Cancun, so please check with your local veterinarian for complete details about your return trip from Cancun.

Once you have all of the health issues settled, its time to check with the airline. Airline rules and regulations change from airline to airline, so be sure to ask your specific provider. Most airlines however, have restrictions on the size of the carrier that your pet will be confined to and may require that certain pets be allowed as checked. Pets that are checked also have additional regulations. No pets may be checked if the temperature is lower than 45 degrees in any place that the plane will touch ground. No pets may be checked to any flight in which the landing temperature is higher than 85 degree.

You also need to check with the hotel that you will be staying at in Cancun. Many hotels have requirements and restrictions for the size and breed of animal that you may have in your room with you.

Also, make sure that you call ahead to the immigration office in Cancun International Airport. Permit fees and additional taxes may apply for the type or breed of pet that you are bringing to Cancun, but these can change without notice so be sure to call no more than three days prior to travel.

Bringing your pet with you to Cancun may sound like a lot of work, but it is always worth it! Once the legalities are taken care of, Cancun is a very dog and pet friendly city and there are lots of activities for pets and pet owners alike!

The chances of contacting any diseases while in Cancun are very slim, but as we have all heard, it is better to be safe than to be sorry. That means being prepared for the worst while traveling. Cancun and Quintana Roo are in very good health standings. There aren’t any prevalent diseases that travelers need to worry about, however Cancun is visited by millions of people each year from all over the globe. So to be sure that you don’t catch anything besides a tan, here are a few things you should know before making your trip to Cancun!

Make sure that all of your immunizations are up to date and current. Approximately six weeks before your intended travel, speak with your doctor about vaccinations. While traveling, you may come in contact with people from all over the globe and consequently, diseases and illness that you would otherwise not see at home and it is very important to keep yourself protected from potentially life threatening diseases.

Bring on the bug spray! Although Malaria and Dengue Fever have not been reported in Cancun for many years, it is still possible for an infected person to be bitten and then the disease spreads. So although the chances are very small to contract these illnesses, be sure to protect against the mosquitoes while you are in Cancun, just to be sure. And you will be much more comfortable as well.

Stay away from wild and stray animals. Although it may be very tempting to feed the hungry looking dog walking along the street, don’t! Stay clear of loose and wild animals because animals may be carrying diseases and you don’t want to be bitten or scratched either.

Cancun is generally very safe and disease free, but if you should feel even the least bit poorly, most Cancun hotels have in-house doctors that can help you figure out if you have come down with something or if you just have a hangover! Not matter how you feel though, you should always consult your doctor when you return home from your Cancun vacation or from traveling anywhere else just to be on the safe side. Most likely everything will be fine because the risks are very low in Cancun, but you always want to make sure that your health is a top priority!

Tipping is always an issue no matter what country or city you are in and sometimes it can be a confusing situation. In some countries it is considered an insult to tip and in other places it is considered rude not to tip! Cancun is no different! Not knowing when to tip and when not to can be confusing because cultures are different, but here are a few “tips” that can help clear up the confusion while you are staying in Cancun!

1. Bars – This can be a tricky one in Cancun. This depends on the kind of bar that you are in and how many people you have with you. If you are alone or a small party of two or three than it is usually customary to leave a tip at your table when you leave, but if you have a large group of ten or more than you may leave a tip with the cashier or in a tip jar that most places have rather than leaving it on the table. If you are in a disco, however, it is not customary to tip.

2. Restaurants – In Cancun, most people working in the service industry do not make as much as those in working the same jobs in the US would make so it is appropriate for you to tip your waiters and waitresses while in Cancun. Ten to fifteen percent is the usual amount.

3. Taxis – In the US and most other places, you would tip a taxi driver, but here in Cancun it is not customary. Unlike the US, taxis are run by private owners and when you pay the driver, the money is actually his rather than having to report to a company and then be paid later. So when you agree on a price for a taxi in Cancun, there is no need for a tip.

4. Supermarkets – If you decide to do some shopping at the supermarket in Cancun, then it is customary to tip the baggers. The supermarket baggers in Cancun do not work for a wage. They work solely for tips and without them, they don’t get paid. So while you are in Cancun, please tip your baggers.

5. Use your judgment – In Cancun, there are many professions that do not require employees to help and assist customers, but many people will anyway. So while you are in Cancun, if someone is especially helpful while assisting you with your jet ski rental, then feel free to tip a little just to show your appreciation!

Things are pretty relaxed in Cancun and are almost the same as tipping in the US, so don’t worry about tipping. Use your judgment and tip when you feel it is appropriate. Don’t let a little thing like tipping worry you while you are on you Cancun vacation!

Traveling in Cancun is typically very safe, but travelers should always be cautious, just in case. Although most people in Cancun are genuinely friendly, there are some that aren’t quite so honest. To help you hold onto your money and possessions and keep the thieves away, here are a few more tips to keep your money safe throughout your Cancun vacation.

                8. Pretend. Thieves and pick-pockets will often look around for people that seem like they are lost or people that look like they don’t know where they are going. Pretend that you do! Acting like you know exactly where you are going can help you blend into a crowd and prevent you from standing out. Cancun in a fairly big city and it is easy to get lost if you don’t know where you are, but keep a map handy and get a sense of your route before you leave your hotel.

            9. Assume the worst. If a dark alley looks like a bad place to be, then just assume that it is a bad place to be. Most of us tend to give everyone and everything the benefit of doubt, but when you are traveling, it is best to assume the worst. We have all heard the old saying, ‘better safe than sorry’ and that it just as true here in Cancun as it is everywhere else. Thieves and pick pockets are opportunists. So don’t give them the opportunity.

            10. Make a scene! If you find yourself in a bad situation regardless of the steps you have taken, then your best bet to get away from the encounter with your money and self intact, is to make a scene. Scream, shout, and wave your arms like a madman! If you notice that someone is coming at you with clear intentions to rob you, then yelling something like ‘GEERTUGAHATWE MUHAHAHA!’ and running away is actually very effective. Not only will you draw attention to yourself and your situation and scare the thief away, but you will probably have a few laughs about it later. And of course, report the situation to the Cancun Police immediately.

Traveling in Cancun is usually very safe and very visitor friendly, but just like everywhere else in the world, there are those that aren’t as honest. So enjoy your Cancun vacation, but be vigilant. Read Cancun Safety Tips Part 1 and 2 for more information on how to hold onto your cash in Cancun!

            4. Beware the “too friendly” stranger. Most people are just nice and want to help you, but use your judgment. When you feel like someone is being just a little too nice, they may be trying to bait you for something a little less than pleasant. Just be polite and excuse yourself from the conversation and do not accept any rides or offers from people you do not know.

            5. Don’t be a sucker. Some thieves aren’t as bold to pick your pocket. Some just want you to give them your money. Scams are very dangerous because people think that they are dealing with reputable people, but in fact they aren’t. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is a scam. But use your better judgment. Cancun hotels often offer services and opportunities, but there typically isn’t any need for concern when you are dealing with people in your own hotel. So be cautious and make sure that you are dealing with reputable companies.

            6. Don’t act like a tourist. When you are traveling in Cancun, you will probably be able to tell who is native and who isn’t just by looking around. Try to blend in with the people that look like they live here in Cancun. Pick pockets and thieves often target travelers rather than locals and making yourself look like a local will reduce your chances of being robbed quite a bit.

            7. Don’t advertise. Flashing a lot of cash may impress some girls, but it also impresses thieves. Don’t show a lot of money in public. Keep all your money hidden and go to the restroom if you need to get some out. Also, do not wear a lot of jewelry and do not wear your diamonds! We all know that ladies love diamonds, but take them off when you are in Cancun. Keep your jewelry at home or in an in-room safe. Most Cancun hotels provide safes at no extra cost.

Traveling in Cancun is usually very safe and very visitor friendly, but just like everywhere else in the world, there are those that aren’t as honest. So enjoy your Cancun vacation, but be vigilant. Read Cancun Safety Tips Part 3 for more information on how to hold onto your cash in Cancun!

Traveling in Cancun is typically very safe, but travelers should always be cautious, just in case. Although most people in Cancun are genuinely friendly, there are some that aren’t quite so honest. To help you hold onto your money and possessions and keep the thieves away, here are a few tips to keep your money safe throughout your Cancun vacation.

Money belts. Money belts are like wallets worn underneath your clothes. These can be great for concealing money, passports and credit cards. The only con is that you might make a scene trying to get your money out of them. Try going to the restroom for some privacy rather than pulling your shirt up in public.

Dummy wallets. Most pick pockets go for the easy target that is sitting on top of your right butt cheek: your wallet. It is always suggested that you put your real wallet in your front pockets and then you can also put a fake wallet full of coupons in your back pocket. Once a thief lifts something off of you, they generally will leave you alone in a hurry after that and it is better that they make off with coupons for $.25 tacos than your credit cards!

Split up your resources. Most hotels in Cancun offer an in-room safe and it is a very good idea to use them. If you keep all of your money and cards in one place and it gets stolen, you are left with nothing. But if you keep some here and some there, then even if you get robbed, you won’t be left with nothing.

Traveling in Cancun is usually very safe and very visitor friendly, but just like everywhere else in the world, there are those that aren’t as honest. So enjoy your Cancun vacation, but be vigilant. Read Cancun Safety Tips Part 2 and 3 for more information on how to hold onto your cash in Cancun!

Sometimes, traveling with a new baby or toddler can be quite a hassle, but having the right gear can really help you and baby have a great Cancun vacation! First thing you should consider is the weather. What time of year will you be visiting Cancun? During the summer, Cancun is very hot and humid. From about March though November, Cancun is about 95 degrees Fahrenheit and about 80% humidity. During the winter months however, it is considerably cooler. At an average of only 80 degrees and 50% humidity, winter is a much easier time to travel to Cancun for both you and your baby.

Now having thought about when you will be visiting, lets talk about the gear! While in Cancun, you will be walking quite a bit. So you will need a way to take baby with you! In most cases you have two options: stroller or some sort of pack. Strollers can be an excellent choice, but they aren’t very practical for use in Cancun. While you are in Cancun you will probably be getting onto buses and into taxis and crossing the streets and with a stroller this can be very cumbersome. A pack of some sort is probably the best way to go, but you need to remember when you are coming to Cancun when you buy a pack. Something like a Bjorn pack would be great for winter Cancun vacations and perfect for almost any child not old enough to walk. A sling is probably a better choice if you are planning to travel to Cancun during the warmer months. Slings come in many fabrics and choices. Chose a light, mesh-like fabric that will be sure to keep both you and baby cool.

As you know, new baby’s skin is very sensitive and sometimes sunscreen isn’t the best answer for sun protection when you are on the beach. Try a pop-up tent from Phil&Teds. They are very light weight and portable and they are made of a very cool mesh that allows wind to pass easily to keep baby cool. They fold small to store and carry, but they can be excellent protection from the sun and mosquitoes. Mosquito born illnesses are almost non-existent here in Cancun, but mosquito bites are very irritating. A pop-up tent can save your baby from a lot of irritation and save you a lot of frustration as well.

For sleeping, most hotels in Cancun’s famous hotel zone have beds large enough to co-bed, but if you would rather have some time alone during the night, you can try a travel hammock like the one in the picture. The travel hammock is a very light weight and portable option. It will keep baby cool during the night and it is familiar. Sleeping in a regular place every night is best for most children and the hammock design is difficult to roll out of. I wouldn’t recommend this for older children that move a lot, but for infants, it is perfect.

Cancun is a very family friendly city and everywhere you go you will find accommodations for you and your child, but it is always best to be prepared! Find out what you think will be best and most comfortable for you and your baby and you will surely have a great Cancun vacation!

We have all heard the basic rules for travelling and most of us know at least a little, but how should we actually vacation? Of course, you can use your Cancun vacation however you like! But if you want to get the most possible out of your time here in Cancun, here are a few unique tips that can help you experience Cancun unlike anything else and help you prepare for those little unexpected situations! So here is Part 2 of the Unique Tips for Traveling in Cancun!

5. Get lost! Sometimes some of the best things you will see in Cancun are off the beaten path. Of course, stay in a safe area and always practice safe travelling, but don’t be afraid to wander a bit! Cancun is full of small shops and restaurants, but if you always stay in one place, you will never see these little treasures of Cancun!

6. Take it nice and easy! Whizzing through things makes your memories and sometimes even your pictures a bit blurry. Take your time, walk slower than usual and enjoy what you see. Spend the time to observe things in a way that you probably don’t usually do in your busy day-to-day life.

7. Have a chat! Don’t be afraid to talk with the local people in Cancun. Even if you don’t speak a word of Spanish, they will probably know at least a few words in English. But even if they don’t, there are other ways to communicate! Language is about conveying a meaning so give it a shot and in most cases you will have a great conversation and a great laugh. The “tourist” has a horrible stereotype to overcome, so show that you aren’t just another tourist and make the effort. When you show efforts like that, people are more likely to help you when you need it. But just in case, bring a map so you can at least point!

8. Take advantage of the public transportation available in Cancun. Cancun has many buses that run all over the city and some even run all night! The bus system in Cancun can be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it will really pay off! The taxis may be cheap, but they add up and the buses are even cheaper! Most Cancun buses cost just 7 pesos or less! And you will get a great view of the city that you can’t get in a taxi!

There are many ways to make your Cancun vacation a memorable success. Try a few of these out and come up with some more ideas to make your Cancun travels exciting and interesting. Read Unique Cancun Travel Tips Part 1 and Part 3 for more tips!
