Find it weird or hilarious, but this Cancun news is one of those stories that may surprise food lovers and those who vacation in Cancun. The upcoming film “Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs” by Sony Pictures produced the World´s Largest Meatball in Cancun that successfully broke the World Guinness Record of 72 pounds and 9 ounces (in 2008), to a new one of 109 pounds. At this Cancun event, Carlos Martinez, an agent of Guinness World Records was on hand to verify the claim.

The world´s largest meatball was carried out to promote the animated film and awaken the interest of adults and children for the story of “Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs”, which is about Flint, a young wannabe inventor that wishes to prove the world he can create the world´s most fascinating invention; turn rain into food.

The Guinness-certified Meatball was created by Ritz Carlton hotel executive chef Rainer Zingrebe on August 4th, 2009. It weighed in at 109 pounds. This winning Italian specialty was presented to the press at the pool of the Ritz Carlton, which was also decorated with oversized fake giant meatballs, and floating plates of spaghetti, along with a giant slice of pizza, large donut, and an ear of corn. This is another great example that food is one of Cancun´s best attractions that meet the world´s highest standards.

Hannah Minghella, president of Sony Pictures Animation said: “During the production of this movie we had a great time creating the appearance, texture and sounds of giant meatballs-and of other favorite dishes that Flint´s machine is able to make them fall from the sky…now we can taste its flavor at last”. “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” is a computer-animated film produced by Sony Pictures Animation and distributed by Columbia Pictures which will be released next on September 18, 2009 in a 3D version as well.

There is always something going on for your Cancun vacation! Check out a local Cancun Travel Guide for all of the upcoming Cancun attractions that you can visit during your Cancun vacation! There is sure to be something interesting happening during your visit to Cancun!

After many years of sand erosion and fierce hurricane seasons, the conditions of Cancun´s beaches are quite different than what they use to be, affecting hotels, condominiums and some even believe the whole Cancun vacation experience. So, in order to preserve the beauty of Mexico´s Caribbean coastline, the Mexican government has recently confirmed that the project to restore these famous beaches for the next winter vacation season will begin in September 1st.

The beaches that will be restored include those in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, which will grant 40 meters of new beach extension in Cancun, 30 meters in Playa del Carmen and 20 meters in Cozumel. The first location in Cancun´s Hotel Zone where the sand will be pumped to, will be Punta Cancun.

The project is supported by the Quintana Roo State Government and Tourism Secretariat, Mexico’s Environment and Natural Resources Secretariat (SEMARNAT) and Mexico’s Federal Electrical Commission by a 900-million-peso (68-million-dollar) trust with federal, state and municipal (Riviera Maya, Cancun and Cozumel) government funds.

The project of beach restoration in Cancun will consist of dredging near 7 million of cubic meters of sand from sand banks located close to Cozumel Island, which will be pumped and transported to the coast of Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, adding new dry beach extension as well as underwater sand foundations that will help prevent further erosion in the next 10 years.

A study has confirmed that climate change and hurricanes, as well as the high –scale construction activity over the sand dunes of the Caribbean coast have provoked enough erosion to change beaches that were 130 meters wide, to the ones that are enjoyed today, which hardly reach 20 meters. Cancun´s beach restoration project will be carried out by the company Mexicana de Dragados, and is programmed to be ready for November.

This is just one of the many ways that Cancun is working to make sure that you Cancun vacation is the best that it can possibly be. During your Cancun vacation you will see many of the efforts that the city of Cancun is making to ensure that everyone feels welcome here in Cancun and to ensure that there are always many Cancun attractions for all to enjoy! Check out a local Cancun Travel Guide for more information into what the city of Cancun is doing to make your Cancun vacation more enjoyable!

Cancun International Airport (CUN) which operates under the administration of Aeropuertos del Sureste de Mexico (Asur) was named the Best Airport in Latin America by the Airport Service Quality program. The results of the survey carried out by Airports Council International of the first trimester of 2009 also acknowledged this air terminal as one of the four best in the world, of which 70 percent of the operations are international and 30 percent are domestic.

The excellent service in the Cancun International Airport is just one of the many luxuries that you will find waiting for you on your Cancun Vacation! When you arrive you will see right away the wonderful service. Arriving in Cancun, you will have to clear through the updated health screening and customs. The health screening process is one of the many ways that Mexico is trying to prevent another “swine flu fiasco” and although it is necessary, it is very easy to clear. You must fill out a form about your recent health and then pass through a gate similar to a metal detector that will take your tempurature. As long as you are feeling fine, theres no need to worry!

Customs is a hassle in any airport and any country, but on your way to beginning your Cancun vacation, it is just a minor set-back! Customs is usually very fast and the excellent service at the Cancun International Ariport keeps the traffic moving so that you are very soon on your way to your Cancun hotel!

As you are ending your Cancun vacation, the fun doesn’t stop when you leave the hotel! At the Cancun International Airport, there many luxury and novelty shops that offer something for everyone! Did you forget to buy a bobblehead Mayan king for your aunt Lucy? Well, don’t worry! You are sure to find everything you need to complete your Cancun shopping spree at the Cancun International Airport!

Archaeologists of Mexico´s National Institute of Anthropology and History (INHA) have recently found a new substructure of over 1000 years old in Chichen Itza archaeological zone in Yucatan, Mexico. The new substructure is located between El Castillo pyramid (named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World) and the Temple of Warriors, and is believed to correspond to the centuries VIII and IX, which might help understand what occurred the years before the age of splendor of Chichen Itza.

The archaeologists of INHA were working on a project to understand the relations and origins of the Kukulcan Pyramid known as “El Castillo”, Gran Columnata and Temple of Warriors, three of the most important buildings of Chichen Itza, through a series of excavations that would determine their development and architectonic evolution.

Since then, the group found a new substructure of 12 meters of length. The leader archaeologist commented that this edification was definitely built 100 years before El Castillo pyramid and Temple of Warriors. A great amount of construction filler material used by ancient Maya to level the terrain has been found, as well as 5 different floor levels covered with stucco that reach the base of El Castillo south staircase.

The excavations in Chichen Itza will continue until September 2009. Those who are planning on a Cancun vacation shouldn´t miss the incredible opportunity to observe this new historical discovery at Chichen Itza archaeological zone.
