After the lamentable fact recorded in the Riviera Maya Princess Hotel, the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Benito Juarez in Cancun, Mexico is doing a thorough review of all hotels, restaurants and shops in Cancun and the Riviera Maya to certificate them due to the compliance of safety standards required by the Energy Department (Secretaria de Energia) in regard to the gas installations.
So far, the vast majority of establishments are complying with these requirements. In fact we know that will be released a blacklist to the Gobernor in order to proceed according to law against the ones that fail.
The rigorous certification is mandatory once a year and not costly for businesses, since they invest only between 30 thousand pesos to 40 thousand pesos. When making extra modifications to gas installations must be carried out additional certifications.
According to data provided by the Civil Protection director in Cancun, there is now a review of record by record of shops, hotels and restaurants to check that all have all the security measures required by law.
If lodging facilities, restaurants and shops do not allow such a review might be deserving of a financial penalty or even the closure of the facilities.
This with the purpose of providing security and tranquility to guests who come to spend their vacation in Cancun or the Riviera Maya, so that the recent explosion in the Riviera Maya Princess Hotel does not affect the image of Cancun as a tourist destination number one in the world.
All hotels are investing and working with excellent attitude, leaving the authorities work to make the appropriate checks and offer a guarantee to its guests.
It is a responsibility of enterprises, since negative events given in Cancun or the Riviera Maya may impact in both destinations. That’s why, Civil Protection and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are working on everything that relates to security for the Climate Event that will be held in late November and early December to make it a successful one.
