The Mayan Island Air airline just announced the opening of a new commercial flight between Belize and Cancun, which is needed due to the intensive tourism activity and of business that takes place within both cities.
Cancun is approximately 400 km or 250 miles away from Belize, which takes today a 5-hour drive. The opening flight of the Cancun-Belize connection will be on July 8th, informed the manager of the airline, Pedro Leal.
Mayan Island Air will continue to extend its flights to Chetumal from Cancun, Honduras and Guatemala, said the president of the company, Louis Zabaneh.
The new connection from Belize to Cancun will be operate in two daily flights, one during the morning and the other at 8:45 pm with a special promotion rate of $199 USD.
Zabaneh informed the airline that the float will consist of thirteen airplanes, and the flight to Cancun will be operated in ATR-72 airplanes which are famous for being powerfully built and quite secure for routes of this kind.
The ATR 72 is a turbo propeller built by a French-Italian ATR airplane manufacturer, and it has a capacity for 74 passengers.
The flight connection from Cancun-Belize will have a 45-minute duration and the initial operations will be carried out by the Spanish company Swift Air, informed the Mayan Island Air representative.
