Find it weird or hilarious, but this Cancun news is one of those stories that may surprise food lovers and those who vacation in Cancun. The upcoming film “Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs” by Sony Pictures produced the World´s Largest Meatball in Cancun that successfully broke the World Guinness Record of 72 pounds and 9 ounces (in 2008), to a new one of 109 pounds. At this Cancun event, Carlos Martinez, an agent of Guinness World Records was on hand to verify the claim.
The world´s largest meatball was carried out to promote the animated film and awaken the interest of adults and children for the story of “Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs”, which is about Flint, a young wannabe inventor that wishes to prove the world he can create the world´s most fascinating invention; turn rain into food.
The Guinness-certified Meatball was created by Ritz Carlton hotel executive chef Rainer Zingrebe on August 4th, 2009. It weighed in at 109 pounds. This winning Italian specialty was presented to the press at the pool of the Ritz Carlton, which was also decorated with oversized fake giant meatballs, and floating plates of spaghetti, along with a giant slice of pizza, large donut, and an ear of corn. This is another great example that food is one of Cancun´s best attractions that meet the world´s highest standards.
Hannah Minghella, president of Sony Pictures Animation said: “During the production of this movie we had a great time creating the appearance, texture and sounds of giant meatballs-and of other favorite dishes that Flint´s machine is able to make them fall from the sky…now we can taste its flavor at last”. “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” is a computer-animated film produced by Sony Pictures Animation and distributed by Columbia Pictures which will be released next on September 18, 2009 in a 3D version as well.
