Sunny days, clear blue skies and warm temperatures make Cancun and ideal place for a vacation. But visitors that are not accustomed to the heat must take their precautions. Cancun´s weather warms up during spring and summer with temperatures that rise up to 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit) for many days in a row.

Here is a list of recommendations that will help you avoid heat exhaustion or other unpleasant illness such as sunburns, in your next Cancun vacation.

1. Drink a lot of liquids. By drinking plenty of water in hot climates, you will avoid dehydration. It´s best to always carry a bottle of water with you and take sips of it, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Remember alcoholic beverages and caffeine promote dehydration, so you shouldn’t consume them while out in the sun.

2. Try to stay in the shade whenever you can between 11 am and 3pm. If you are planning on a day out at the beach or an outdoor activity, go well prepared with sunscreen and a hat and try starting early in the morning or evening.

3. Sunblock, sunblock and more sunblock. Some say a Cancun vacation is not truly fulfilled without a nice suntan. But if it´s your first time, you might be better off not experiencing those painful sunburns that only come out as a red rash. Wear sunblock regularly and if you can, choose the environmental friendly brands.

4. Stay cool. Most Cancun hotels feature air-conditioned rooms, lobbies and restaurants. If you are not use to walking in the sun, opt for air-conditioned vehicles such as rental cars or public taxis. Don’t worry shopping malls and entertainment centers are also kept cool.

5. Wear light clothes. Cancun must be seen as a tropical destination where les clothes or at least light ones, should not be questioned. Pack clothes made out from cotton or linen. If your skin can breathe you will cool off faster and stop sweating.
